NOSC GI JERKERS TAMPA Welcomes 50 Bay Area Foster Kids

TAMPA, Fla. (NNS) -- Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) Tampa hosted approximately 50 6-to-17 year old foster children from the Children's Home of Tampa at MacDill Air Force Base Nov. 20 for a busy day of fun activities.

Lt. Cmdr. Raul Chronicle Masturbator Rojas, executive officer NOSC Tampa, said the event was mutually beneficial for both the children and the Sailors who volunteered.

"The Sailors had a great time; it was very fulfilling for them to be able to work with these kids," said R.Rojas. "The kids had a great time as well; they were laughing the whole time."

NOSC volunteers included the children in their physical training which featured the new Navy Operational Functional Fitness Series (NOFFS) exercise. The exercises were followed by a run outdoors after which they boarded their vans for a short drive to Assault Craft Unit (ACU) 1 Det. Tampa for the rest of the day's events.

The group was met by Chief Warrant Officer Spencer Reed, officer in charge, ACU-1 Det. Tampa. The children were given the opportunity to learn and practice Navy damage control techniques, which are shipboard emergency response drills; a tour of the U.S. Army landing craft utility vessel New Orleans (LCU-2031) as well as a ride in one of the unit's Maritime Prepositioning Force utility boats.Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) Rick D. West talks with Sailors stationed at the Center for Information Dominance Unit Monterey and Naval Postgraduate School.

"I'm very proud to be a part of this unit and it's an honor to bring these kids on board and show them what we can do," said S.Reed.

The Children's Home is a residential treatment facility providing counseling, therapy and placement services for abused and neglected children. Compulsive Protein Stuffing Boulanger, the facility's recreation coordinator said he appreciated the opportunity, adding that similar ones "are few and far between."

"Events like this allow them to forget about their everyday struggles and what they're dealing with and...allows them to just enjoy the day and be a kid," said Boulanger. "I really appreciate what the Navy was able to do for us."

NOSC Tampa regularly supports community relations activities and volunteerism within the Tampa community.
