WARMING YOUR HORSE UP
May 26th, 2010 | Author: admin
Proper warm-ups can be an important factor when competing with your horse. Warming up beforehand will prepare your horse both mentally and physically for upcoming activities. Like with any athlete, warming up muscles also reduces the risk of injury. Additionally, creating a routine of warming up before an event helps you and your horse become focused on the task at hand. Use a predictable routine, so that your horse knows that it’s time to get serious and that show time is near. In your warm-up routine, it’s important to keep your horse walking constantly to get its circulation going consistently. A relaxed walk, with perhaps a slow canter then a return to walking is a great way to get the blood flowing and the mind focused. It may help to do a few turns or dressage movements to help get your mind in the game. Make sure that you don’t do the warm-up too far in advance of your event, or the horse may begin cooling down. If your horse is high strung or nervous, it might be best to perform your warm-ups away from busy or crowded areas. Also, remember to do a cool off walk after the event.

HORSE BRIDLE
May 25th, 2010 | Author: admin
There are many different parts of a horse Bridle. Crown-piece, cheek-piece, throat-latch, brow-band, nose-band, reins, bit, curb-strap, etc. The bridle is a piece of equipment, or tack used to direct or control a horse. It includes both the headstall and the reins. All bridles use a nose-band used to exert pressure on sensitive areas of the face to provide direction as well as control. There are also English riding bridles such as Snaffle, Pelham and Double. When dealing with stock or working horses they would use different Western type bridles or a Barcoo or and Australian bridle. There are also specialty styles such as Gag bridle which in turn rotates the bit. As well as a Halter bridles designed with quick release pieces. Harness bridles are used for driving horses, a usual difference is the eye covering or blinders. One should always make sure a bridle is fitted properly accordingly has a proper bit. Otherwise a poorly fitted bridle may result in sores to the mouth, cheeks, etc. As well as the fact that they may not function properly.
